Lewis' silver pheasant - abt. 10 cm - white & black
The silver pheasant can be found int the wild, in China, south-est Asia, but also in Argentina.
It lives in herds of a male and 4 to 5 hens. If the silver pheasant suffer the other members of the same specie, it could be aggressive with other birds to protect its family.
The male has black chest and neck, and a wonderful white mantle, black streaked with chevrons. A long comb of black feathers follow the back of its head until the neck, like a very original haircut.
The hen has a brown-olive green plumage, to hide her during brooding.
This bird is easy to breed so you will find it easily in flower gardens. But it's not so easy to find feathers for decoration or fashion.
